UPDATE: Parts of Ontario now a restricted fire zone

Updated at 9:45 a.m.

The province is putting a lid on any outdoor fires.

As of Friday, the Ministry of Natural Resources has banned outdoor fires in the province's northern area, which includes the Bruce Peninsula.

That includes a ban on burning of debris, campfires, cooking fires and even an outdoor fireplace or fire pit.

This will allow emergency responders to focus their efforts where they are needed most.

Some municipalities were already putting burn bans in place, like Brockton, to also limit firefighter exposure to COVID-19.

A total fire ban has also been implemented in Township of Kinloss, Township of West Wawanash and Township of Ashfield.

It will be up to municipalities, based on their respective fire departments, on how to handle outdoor fires.

In Facebook postings, the Goderich Fire Department and the Fire Department of North Huron gave residents an update on their respective situations.

CORRECTION: On April 3, 2020 BlackburnNews.com reported that the entire province was under a burn ban. It is currently the designated fire region that the Ministry of Natural Resources has put under a ban. The correction has now been made in the above article.
