Local school board trying to finish up student survey

The Avon Maitland District School Board continues to work towards getting the classroom into homes.

The board has posted a survey to determine how well equipped students are to participate in the continuity of a learning program being launched by the Ministry of Education.

"A lot of the continuity of learning that is being launched by the province and by the local school boards involves some form of interaction with the teacher or different platforms for education, so we want to make sure that we can have everybody set up to do that," said Manager of Communications Chera Longston.

She said in order to help those who don't have access to a computer or don't have reliable internet they have a plan in place.

"We're looking at partnerships with local internet providers and then we're also looking at deploying some of the devices that we have in the board, so we have a wide variety of I-pads and Google Chrome books and those are for use in the classrooms," added Longston.

She said they could round up all of those devices that are currently not in the hands of students and lend them out to students who need them.

Parents who are not able to fill the survey out because they don't have access to a computer or internet are asked to call their local school and leave a message that they need a device, their name and the students' name and whether they have internet or not.

They can also get more information on the board's website.

The deadline for completing the survey is noon on Saturday. The board hopes to start the program on Monday.
