Hanover declares state of emergency

Mayor Sue Paterson has officially declared a state of emergency in and for the Town of Hanover in response to COVID-19.

Mayor Paterson stated, “In following the lead of Grey County, the advice of the Medical Officer of Health, and the consensus of the Town of Hanover’s Municipal Emergency Control Group, I believe the time has come to declare an emergency in and for the Town of Hanover. It is particularly important to send this message now as many residents are returning from the United States and other international locations and are required to self-isolate for 14 days.”

Paterson added “The Town of Hanover continues to be proactive in our approach to COVID-19 to ensure that the impact of the situation does not affect necessary services for residents. It will provide a framework for redistribution of staff as well as access to decision-making power provided under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The Town of Hanover is committed to ensuring the safety of both its residents and staff.”

The Town of Hanover requests that all residents continue to be proactive with hygiene, personal distancing and self-isolation protocols as outlined by the Provincial Medical Officer of Health.

The declaration of this emergency is made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act when there is a significant event that requires activity to reduce or mitigate a danger of major proportions.
