Wellington County municipalities to defer interest payments

Wellington County and all seven member municipalities intend to waive all penalties and interest on both tax and water/sewer payments on 2020 amounts for 60 days from the due date.

The County and its local municipalities recognize that residents and businesses may experience financial strain and economic impact during the COVID-19 outbreak and that municipal office closures may affect payments owed to the municipalities.

Residents and businesses who find themselves facing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic can defer their next property tax installment without penalty. Property tax accounts will be adjusted as necessary to reflect these relief measures.

There is a state of emergency in The County of Wellington and its seven member municipalities are participating in it

A declaration of emergency provides the head of council the authority to take actions and make quick decisions, it can provide volunteers with WSIB protection, and demonstrates to residents that the municipality is taking the current situation seriously.

“These initial relief measures reflect the County and all seven member municipalities’ concern for our residents and businesses well-being and economic conditions,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “We will continue to work together and respond to the evolving challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
