More local municipalities close facilities to the public

The list of government offices that are closing is growing.

Goderich council voted to suspend all meetings and close town hall to the public at a special meeting to address the town's response to COVID-19.

Mayor John Grace says they already decided on Friday to close the YMCA and any facilities they manage, as well as the municipal day care centre, the McKay Seniors Centre and the tourism office.

“We will suspend council meetings until, at least, April 6th. We will re-evaluate at that time, or the week prior to that, to see whether we would consider closing it for a further date,” said Grace. “Today council has recommended that we close the town office to the public. We will stay open as far as our staff are concerned and we will supply all of the services that we typically supply.”

Grace says staff will continue to work out of the office and they'll continue to supply services like administration, treasury, public works, custodial, and fire.

Tuesday, the Municipality of South Bruce announced it's closing its administration office, the Teeswater Cullross Community Centre, Mildmay Carrick Community Recreation Complex, Formosa Community Centre, Teeswater Town Hall and public works facilities.

In a release, the municipality also says landfills will be closed until Saturday, March 21, 2020, "to allow preventative measures to be put in place to protect staff and the public."

South Bruce council and committee meetings have been suspended until further notice.

Building permit applications can be submitted by email and documents can be dropped off in a designated bin in front of the municipal office in Teeswater. Taxes and other payments can be made by mail, drop box at the municipal office, online, by phone or at Mac's Milk in Mildmay.

The Township of Georgian Bluff announced it's closing all facilities including its administration office to the public until April 6th. All meetings have been cancelled until that time as well.

Township services will continue including public works, emergency services, limited building department services, and garbage and recycling services.

The Township of Arran-Elderslie also closed off of its facilities to the public but landfills remain open and its council meeting for March 23rd will still go ahead. Delegations for that meeting will be rescheduled. The capital budget meeting for March 31 is postponed.
