Maitland Valley maintains watershed conditions statement

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is maintaining its watershed conditions statement.

The conservation authority said as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, an average of 15 millimetres of rain has fallen across the Maitland and Nine Mile watersheds. Lucknow got the most with 20 millimeters falling. Another five to 10 millimetres of rain is expected before it tapers off through the afternoon.

The authority said the headwaters areas at Harriston and Listowel are expected to peak late Tuesday evening with the larger rivers rising even further on Wednesday.

Flooding is expected to be limited to low lying, flood-prone areas. Residents are reminded to stay away from all rivers, ditches, and streams where slippery banks and fast-flowing water are creating a dangerous situation.

The watershed conditions statement is expected to remain in effect until Monday morning.
