COVID-19 dominates discussion at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance meeting

The novel coronavirus generated a lot of discussion at Thursday night's Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance board meeting in Seaforth.

Part of the conversation was around what people should do if they think they have symptoms of the virus, or at least feel they should be tested for it.

Alliance C-E-O, Andrew Williams says the first step for anyone who feels they have symptoms should be to contact their primary care provider. Failing that, Williams says they should contact public health, or telemedicine, or the local hospital.

“We certainly would urge anybody who might feel they need some sort of testing, to reach out first and contact their providers before they come into the system, because one of the main strategies is self-quarantine, for people who feel they may have something that is of concern. But our health care providers very much will make sure you get plugged in appropriately,” said Williams.

Williams added that there is a triage of questions that people will be put through based on travel history and experiences, and then a course of action is determined.
