Applications now being accepted for the 2020 Summer Company program

Huron County's Economic Development Department is now accepting applications for the 2020 Summer Company program.

Entrepreneur and Business Coach, Patrick Donnelly said any student between the ages of 15 and 29, and who is returning to school this fall, is eligible to apply.

Successful applicants are given the first half of their three-thousand dollar grant to cover some of their start-up costs.

“With Summer Company, you get start-up money to kick off a new summer business. It's a $3,000 grant, so you would get half of that upfront to help with some of the start-up costs and then you get advice and mentorship from us at Huron County Economic Development, but also mentorship from local business leaders.”

Donnelly said the applicants will be given some help in preparing a business plan and if they're one of the six students chosen for the program they'll learn how to be their own boss.

“So throughout the summer, students will learn how to run their own business. You get to be your own boss, you learn what it takes to manage a business, so a lot of really useful skills. It's a great thing to put on a resume for students who want to get some of that experience, but it's also great for university applications as well.”

Applicants can contact Patrick Donnelly at the Huron Business Development Department or call him at 440-1267, or google Summer Company Ontario. The deadline for applications is May 17.
