Perth County Budget lowers tax rate

Perth County Council has adopted the 2020 budget estimates which should save taxpayers some money.

On Thursday, Perth County Council recommended that the 2020 budget be adopted with a 6.15 per cent increase to the levy.

The levy amounts to $16,532,318 -- an additional $958,458 from 2019.

The residential tax rate for 2020 based on 2019 tax policy will be 1.73 per cent less than the 2019 residential tax rate

Every $100,000 of residential assessment will be taxed at $257.37 in 2020 compared to $261.89 in 2019 for upper-tier purposes - a modest decrease of $4.52.

Perth County’s 2020 budget continues to build in areas of asset management and staffing resources to support the range of projects and priorities the County is facing in the upcoming year.

"All municipalities are feeling financial pressure from reductions in provincial transfers as well as high increases in insurance costs," said Warden Jim Aitcheson. "The result is Perth County alongside many other municipalities are seeing higher than average increase to overall levies.”

Interim CAO, Lori Wolfe added, “We are pleased with the approval of this budget as it works to strike a balance between financial responsibility and moving forward with key projects and priorities for 2020.”
