West Grey Police mourn passing of fellow officer

West Grey Police are mourning one of their own.

In a release late this afternoon, the police service says the officer had five years of service and passed away this morning.

The release says the officer's death is not considered suspicious and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario will be determining an official cause of death.

West Grey Police and the West Grey Police Association are not commenting on the circumstances surrounding the officer's passing.

The statement, signed by Chief Robert Martin and Sergeant Mark McComb, president of the West Grey Police Association reads:

"We extend our deepest condolences to the officer's loved ones and colleagues. This tragic loss of our colleague and friend is being felt throughout our close-knit community and will inevitably continue to be felt for a long time to come. The loss of one member affects us all.

"We encourage the public and members of our police family to reach out for support if needed."
