Local fire department offers year end report

The Saugeen Shores fire department kept busy in 2019.

They attended 184 calls for service, which came to over 2,850 hours of service.

Fire Chief, Phil Eagleson, says false alarms continue to be challenging and a time waster.

"Compared to other municipalities, we're not exceeding the percentage of false alarm calls. However, it's stressing to the volunteers who try so hard to keep our fire prevention programs strong. We still do receive a lot of false alarms each year."

Eagleson says they responded to over 60 "false alarms", and he would like to remind the public that there are penalties for repeat false alarm offenders.
