Housing development in North Huron moving forward

A new housing development is in the works in Wingham's east end.

SZAM Capital Partners has developed a three-phase development plan, with a total of 450 lots to be serviced on the 90+ acres next to Maitland River Elementary School.

Lead Developer & Facilitator Doug Cerson said they plan to begin by constructing 42 units in Maitland Estates immediately and he understands affordability is important.

"They will consist of single-family homes, townhouses, and duplexes. We aim for sustainability and affordability. We know that we need to be in the low $300,000 range on our single-family homes as a starting point to make them affordable for the community."

Phase 1 will include over 170 homes being built over a 5 year period. They will begin servicing the first 42 lots by the end of 2020, and construction will start early in the spring of 2021.

An open house will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, at the North Huron Wescast Community Center beginning at 10 a.m. They will start with a short presentation, followed by a Q&A session to answer any questions the public may have.
