OPP identify young victim of fatal snowmobile collision

Huron County OPP has identified the victim of a fatal snowmobile crash near Ethel as a 14-year-old from Huron East.

The OPP said Taylor Long was operating a snowmobile along a marked trail at about 8:46 p.m. on Monday when she attempted to cross a drainage ditch but misjudged the location of the marked cross over.

She entered a steep ditch, and another snowmobiler followed, colliding with the lead machine.

Long was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

The operator of the second snowmobile suffered minor injuries in the crash and was later released from the hospital.

Huron County & Perth County OPP Detachments, Huron County Paramedic Services and Grey Township Fire Department responded to the scene on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail between Krauter Line and Henfryn Line.
