Huron East awarded at economic event

Huron East Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley says Huron East, and specifically Seaforth, edged out some much larger communities to win an award for Rural Excellence for Downtowns.

The award was presented at last week's annual Economic Development Council of Ontario's Awards Night.

Hawley said she put out a casting call for volunteers to appear in the video.

“And it was based on Downtown. So it was a parody of Petula Clark's 1974 hit, Downtown. So we re-wrote the lyrics and then it was dubbed and it gave great profile to all of the businesses,” said Hawley.

Hawley also picked up the Joseph A. Montgomery Economic Development Achievement Award for leadership.

“That actually was a leadership award. It's the Joseph A. Montgomery Economic Development Achievement Award and it recognizes innovative contributions and also recognizing the recipients' commitment to going above and beyond in their field.”
