Concerns about Bluewater Centre sale brought forward at ROMA

Huron County Warden, Jim Ginn, says the search is on again for a buyer of the former Bluewater Centre for Young Offenders property.

Ginn says they had two buyers for different parts of the property but one pulled over the potential gas for supplying natural gas to the property.

Ginn says he and C-A-O, Meighan Wark took part in an energy round table discussion at this week's ROMA Conference and expressed their concerns about the cost that would have to borne by a business that required natural gas.

Ginn says those costs are prohibitive and that really hurts Huron County's ability to encourage economic development.

“If you're a really big user of it, the pipeline, right from Stratford to Goderich has to be expanded and they are going to have to pay a large portion of that cost. Just makes it hard for anybody to come in here is they're a large natural gas user,” said Ginn.

Ginn says they also had a discussion with Provincial officials about the problem. He says they did listen, but whether that will change anything or not remains to be seen.
