The Municipality of Central Huron has accepted a nearly $160,000 payment from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting Gateway Casinos in Clinton.
The money is the third-quarter payment of non-tax gaming revenue.
Since August 2000, Central Huron has received more than $11 million in non-tax gaming revenue.
“These revenue payments to host communities support important community programs and services,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron–Bruce. “Central Huron has used some of the funds in Clinton for upgrading the ball diamonds, building the new arena, as well as the community park.”
These payments are made under an equitable formula that determines the funds communities receive for hosting a gaming facility and are based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue that is consistent across all sites in Ontario.
OLG provides the Ontario government with its largest source of non-tax revenue from Government Business Enterprises. In 2018-2019, this amounted to $2.47 billion.
