Huron Women's Shelter to introduce new education program

Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services has introduced a new community education program in Huron County.

Director of Community Engagement Laura Scott said the program will provide training and instruction on issues related to violence against women.

Scott said they know educating individuals about domestic violence and associated challenges cannot prevent them from happening, but education can help prevent harm and better equip the community's response to risk factors. She said they can teach people the skills to intervene and reduce harm and support survivors.

“First we have to focus on high schools throughout Huron County, which is complements of the current Ontario curriculum, and then the other piece of the program is directed towards agencies, businesses, community groups, etc, so really, through this program, we're inviting the community to be part of the solution,” said Scott.

The program will officially launch on February 3 and it's free of charge.

Organizations interested in the program can contact Huron Women's Shelter at 519-524-5333.
