211 offers help for the holidays

The holidays can often lead to money stress, relationship issues and loneliness.

The United Way Perth Huron urges anyone struggling through the season to turn to 2-1-1 for help.

211 is a free helpline connecting residents of Perth and Huron Counties to valuable information about social services and programs in their community.

211 can offer help for many issues from covering an unpaid hydro bill to locating a community meal for an isolated person looking for food and fellowship.

A live operator answers each call, gathers information about the caller and tailors results based on the community they live in and the type of help they need.

“It’s not always easy asking for help or getting information,” said Susan Faber, director of community information for 211. “Whether a person is embarrassed to ask for information in-person, or they can’t get the help they’re looking for because they don’t know where to turn, 211 can be the answer to a lot of people’s wishes during the holidays and beyond.”
