Stratford Perth Humane Society to provide animal control in West Perth

The Stratford Perth Humane Society will provide animal control and by-law services to the Municipality of West Perth.

The municipality recently awarded the contract for services such as animal control for dogs, animal bylaw and pound services until October 31, 2023.

The animal control portion of the contract is specifically geared for dogs, with full services being provided on weekdays, and emergency services being provided on evenings, weekends and holidays.

The current contract does not cover stray cats, or sick or injured wildlife, however, community members can try calling call the humane society to determine if they can provide assistance. Residents may be able to bring the cat to the humane society, but there could be a waiting list due to space.

“We are excited to announce our new partnership with the Municipality of West Perth,” stated Kathrin Delutis, executive director for the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth. “We look forward to spending time in the community and helping both people and pets.”

They ask that community members call the centre in advance at 519-273-6600.

“This is where we hope the community will support us,” stated Delutis. “Our cat numbers are typically very high throughout the year and we only have so much space in the centre. We are happy to accept calls and hope the community can support us by caring for stray cats while they wait for a space.”

Stray pets can be reclaimed at the humane society’s location at 125 Griffith Rd. in Stratford.
