Owen Sound Council studies preliminary budget

Owen Sound's preliminary capital budget numbers would add up to a tax increase of about two per cent.

The tax impact on an average assessed property of about $218,000 would be about $71 more a year.

The numbers will be crunched at a special Owen Sound city council meeting on Thursday. Further budget talks are scheduled for December 10 and 11.

Council has been asked to aim for January 27 to finalize the budget.

About $275,000 is pencilled in for police services.

Other suggested initiatives include $70,000 to create a downtown Wi-Fi program and $50,000 for expanding the city-owned fibre network to connect municipal facilities.
