Huron Perth career events successful

Students in Huron and Perth Counties were able to find, explore and anticipate their future careers at two events in Stratford.

Students in Grades 7 to 10 explored a wide range of career opportunities during an Interactive Career Day yesterday at the Stratford Rotary Complex.

Community partners showcased various career pathways such as apprenticeship, college, community, university and workplace through a series of interactive displays and activities.

Last night from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the focus shifted to opportunities for women in the non-traditional skilled trades. The Real Deal on Skilled Trades offers girls in Grades 8 to 12 a better understanding of a potential career in the trades.

The collective effort was led by the Avon Maitland District School Board, the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board and the Foundation for Education

Students also heard about specialty programs such as cooperative education, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) and Dual Credits  through the School-College Work Initiative.
