Owen Sound facilities open as seasonal warming centres

Owen Sound has made municipal warming stations available as lower seasonal temperatures become a regular occurrence.

With wind chills near -13 C expected Monday, residents can get out of the cold during regular hours at municipal facilities.

The Barclay Room at Owen Sound Police Services is available 24/7 unless it is being used for another program. Wind chills will hit -17 C on Tuesday.

People can also take shelter at Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, Owen Sound City Hall, the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre and the Bayshore Community Centre.

Residents requiring assistance are also reminded to call 211 for additional warming centre or emergency shelter information.

Residents are encouraged to protect themselves from the cold and to dress warmly, stay dry, seek shelter, and plan ahead.

Emergency shelter services are provided by the County of Grey through YMCA Housing Services. Those seeking emergency shelter are encouraged to contact YMCA Housing Services at 519-371-9230.

Safe’n Sound also provides emergency shelter services and those requiring support may call 519-470-2222 between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
