Huron Perth students explore career options

Local educators have joined together to create a significant career exploration opportunity in Stratford Wednesday.

Students in Grades 7 to 10 will gather at the Stratford Rotary Complex for an Interactive Career Day to explore a wide range of career opportunities.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with community partners representing the five career pathways of apprenticeship, college, community, university and workplace.

They'll connect and network with students through a series of interactive displays and activities.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage, interact and be inspired by female mentors and exhibitors, take in authentic success stories and practical information about non-traditional skilled trades and enjoy a meal in the company of friends and family.

Post-secondary institutions, the local workforce and community agencies will be there to showcase opportunities available to students during secondary school and beyond.

Students will also hear about special programs such as cooperative education, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) and Dual Credits through theSchool-College Work Initiative.

On Wednesday night from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., the emphasis will specifically be on opportunities for women in the non-traditional skilled trades.

The Real Deal on Skilled Trades is an annual event where parents or guardians and their daughters in Grades 8 to 12 can get a better understanding of a potential career in the trades.
