ATV rides would like to access Wingham businesses

An advocate for ATV users in North Huron is asking the municipality to allow the vehicles on town roads.

Huron Shores ATV club spokesperson Tyler Johnston appeared before council last week asking if members can use the town of Wingham roads to get food and gas and to access area trails.

He said they have an agreement with other areas to use their roads to access services.

"We have a railway bed that goes from Clifford all the way to Port Elgin, and down to Baie Du Dore, next to Bruce Power. And through those different municipalities, and towns, we have agreements with Port Elgin, Walkerton, and Mildmay," he added.

He said the proposed North Huron route would be about 10 -15 minutes from the trail by ATV.

"Right now our riders know that they need to pack extra fuel if they're coming to this end of the trail, because there is no place to refuel right now, nearby the trail," he explained

Huron Kinloss, Morris Turnberry and Howick Township have bylaws to allow ATVs on their municipal roads.

North Huron will gather information on the proposal and make a decision by the end of the year.
