Huron County reviews the EMS Response Time Performance Plan

Huron County has completed its annual review of emergency services response times.

EMS Chief Jeff Horseman said the province requires that the Response Time Performance Plan is reviewed every year for the following year.

"The most urgent calls or the most critical calls, the time frame of arrival of a paramedic on scene is set by the Province as eight minutes. The percentage of times that we have to achieve that is set by the local service provider, so in our case, the County of Huron," he said.

Horseman said the province doesn't make any adjustment for distance or weather conditions in rural communities as opposed to urban centres.

"That would be where the county would make their adjustment," he said. "So for somebody like our own county that's a rural county, they would probably set a lower percentage of times to achieve the standard than say somewhere in London Middlesex."

Horseman said they do track their response times and follow up on instances when they don't meet the eight-minute target.  In most cases that comes down to distance or weather conditions.

He added they've been meeting their targets for response time consistently over the last few years.
