Stratford police investigate attempted ATM thefts

Stratford police are investigating three separate attempts to steal ATM machines in the city this week.

Police believe all the incidents are related and involve the same three suspects.

The first was Monday, at 3 am., when employees at Sobeys at 581 Huron St. scared off the suspects who had pulled a vehicle up to the store.

Then at 4:15 a.m., the same vehicle was seen at Festival Market Place on Ontario Street. The suspected attempted to remove an ATM machine from the Neighbourhood Credit Union but were unsuccessful.

The same thieves again tried to remove the ATM machine from the front of the Sobeys store on October 9 at 4:25 a.m. but were frightened off by employees.

Stratford police are looking for a mid-2000s royal blue Chevrolet pick-up truck. The three suspects are males of average height and build. In each incident, they had their faces and hands covered.

Police are asking store owners with ATM machines to be aware and review security measures.
