Enrolment increases at Grey and Bruce public schools

Preliminary student counts at Bluewater schools show enrolment is higher than projections.

The board says enrolment in Grey and Bruce public schools in September totalled 16,803, up 211 from last school year. It’s also about 50 more students than expected.

The Owen Sound area saw higher elementary enrolment than projections. The Kincardine and Port Elgin areas are expected to increase throughout the school year. Bruce Power is ramping up to the major component replacement which starts in January.

A board report says enrolment counts are a critical process in reporting to the Ministry of Education to provide accurate information for funding, staff resources and facility planning.

The most recent data is from September 12.
