Provincial Long Term Care Minister reassures Brucelea Haven residents

Residents of Bruce County's troubled Brucelea Haven Long Term care facility received a visit today from the Honourable Merrilee Fullerton, the Provincial Minister of Long-Term Care.

Warden Mitch Twolan announced that Bruce County has entered into a management contract with Primacare Living Solutions to deliver management for not only Brucelea Haven but also Gateway Haven, the one hundred bed long term care home in Wiarton.

Primacare will support the County to at least the end of 2020.

Twolan promised, “that as the Licensee, County Council understands that we have major obligations to fulfill and Council has taken some serious steps to begin a complete reset to restore trust and confidence to our residents and their families.”

Warden Twolan assured the group that “our immediate need is to bring Brucelea Haven into compliance with provincial standards, and we are dedicated to addressing these issues and moving forward to ensure that the County’s long term care homes provide a high level of care for residents in the future.”

Chief Operating Officer for Primacare Living Solutions, Jill Knowlton, said, “thank you for the opportunity to work with Bruce County Long Term Care Homes, Brucelea Haven and Gateway Haven. I commend County Council for taking the swift and immediate action that they have. We are confident that our work with Brucelea Haven will bring the Home into compliance with all requirements, ensuring a best in class Home for our residents, their families and our staff. Both Homes will provide an exemplary experience for those in their care.”

Admissions remain temporarily suspended at Brucelea Haven. Warden Twolan said, “I am delighted that Minister Fullerton took the time to visit Brucelea Haven and spend time with our residents, I know it means a lot to them and their families.”
