Goderich council studies Memorial Arena survey results

There's a new development in the future of the Memorial Arena in Goderich.

63 per cent of the people who took part in a recent survey indicated they wanted the town to keep and maintain the facility.

Councillor Trevor Bazinet said the next step is to figure out what it's going to cost to provide users with two ice pads in Goderich.

"Everything comes down to money, but, ideally, for one facility to have two ice pads, that's the way most arenas are going now, that can have two ice surfaces," he said. "Because it makes sense if you're going to host a hockey tournament for example, or a ringette tournament or whatever, you have two ice pads in the same facility."

Bazinet said it eliminates a lot of confusion for participants because everything is in the same facility and it reduces the cost of things like Zambonis because both rinks share the same equipment.

He added council has to determine what it would cost to put a new system in memorial to replace the defective system as opposed to the cost of putting a twin pad at the Maitland Recreation Centre.
