Lucknow-area farmer Tony McQuail is the federal NDP candidate for Huron-Bruce in the upcoming election.
He was acclaimed at Thursday night's nomination meeting in Goderich.
This will be his fifth federal election, on top of two provincial elections and one election as a school board trustee.
He said elections have changed significantly since his first, particularly in terms of the potential for manipulation through social media and the distraction that goes on in a campaign.
And in the run-up to this election, McQuail says we should be thinking about representation, regeneration and redistribution.
“Representation because democracy at its best is our channelling our collective wisdom and unfortunately our current system means that in this election since Trudeau did not keep his promise to change our electoral system, we'll have nine million Canadians who will cast ballots that won't earn any representation,” said McQuail.
The environment is another issue.
McQauil said he believes we're living beyond our planet's means and consuming more than it can generate.
He said he is looking forward to the campaign and the opportunity to get his message out.
