A good time to plant trees

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is accepting orders for trees until the end of September.

Forestry and Land Stewardship Specialist Ian Jean said fall is often an excellent time for planting trees.

“Fall is a good chance to access back of fields. If you have wheat on the field and it's come off, then ground conditions are usually pretty good in the fall for planting windbreaks and so on. The other advantage is the trees get settled in at a time of year when there's good moisture in the ground," said Jean.

Jean added ABCA staff can help landowners develop a plan for their property and help them access funding to help with their projects.

“There is cost-share funding right now through the Huron Clean Water project for projects such as windbreaks, watercourse buffers or larger re-forestation projects. Staff are available as well to come out and help you develop a plan and then work on your behalf to try and access that funding," said Jean.
