Goderich ready for Celtic Roots Festival

The 27 annual Goderich Celtic Roots Festival opens tonight at the Lion's Park, behind the Park House on West Street.

Artistic Director Cheryl Prashker says the Festival is in the enviable position of having international artists calling them and asking to perform in Goderich.

One reason is that the musicians love to play Irish music and they're keeping the Festival strictly Celtic. Another attraction is the camaraderie among the musicians, who love to come back year after year.

"The biggest name that some Celtic lovers will know is Alton and they've been around for about 35 years, but this will be their first time to Goderich.    We have them on both Friday and Saturday night.   We have Brian McNeil, from Scotland, a wonderful songwriter, singer of old songs and fiddle player."

They also had at least 230 attending their week-long Celtic College.

More information, including a schedule of performers can be found on the Celtic Roots Festival web site.
