Bruce Power awards more than $100,000 in postsecondary scholarships

One-hundred post-secondary students from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties have received $500 Bruce Power scholarships.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2011, Bruce Power began offering scholarships to students from the surrounding area to help with the costs of pursuing a post-secondary education.

The company presented the students with their scholarships at a breakfast event Thursday at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre.      There were recipients from over 18 universities and 23 colleges.

Through a partnership with Indspire, Bruce Power has also awarded a total of $54,000 to 12 local Indigenous students this year.

"The calibre of young talent in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties is evident in the applications we received again this year," said Mike Rencheck, President and CEO of Bruce Power, who personally presented the awards to the recipients Thursday.     "Every dollar counts when you’re pursuing post-secondary education.   If we can provide even a small boost to a local student, it may help them excel at their studies."
