Stranded boater rescued on lake near Markdale

A stranded boater had to call for help on Bells Lake, just west of Markdale.

The 75-year-old Kitchener man had been on the water for three hours on Thursday and had to call for help.

West Grey police and officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry responded to the call. Another boater also helped out.

Police said wind conditions increased and the man suffered heat exhaustion and couldn't paddle back to shore.

The West Grey Police Service said there has been a 19-year partnership with the MNRF in joint operations and rescues.

Police are also reminding boaters to always have a planned route and let others know where you are travelling and how long you will be.
