Grey County wants feedback on draft Trails Master Plan

Grey County has a Recreational Trails Master Plan in the works, and residents will have a chance to comment on the draft report at an open house.

Planner Sarah Johnson would like people to offer feedback on the plan which would govern the entire system.

"The plan is currently available on the county's website under the planning department. There's a section specifically for the recreational trails master plan."

Johnson said residents will have a chance to review the plan at the Grey County Building in Owen Sound from 6:30 until 8 pm Thursday.

"It's a basic overview of the draft, and what we hope to accomplish with the review period. The review period will end on August 23rd.    We're hoping to have all comments by then," she explained.

The County has a 77 km Grey County CP Rail Trail, and various trails throughout 8,500 acres of county forest.

"Certainly the trails are a big draw for tourism. We have varied numbers of different types of users we have ATV users and snowmobile users. We have equestrians and we have hikers. We have cyclists," she continued.

She says the master plan would help direct and balance the various uses for the next 12 years.

"It introduces trail maintenance guidelines. Things like signage. We are going to try and coordinate with our tourism department and other departments to make sure that we have cohesiveness throughout the county with regards to signage requirements. There's etiquette," She said.

The plan would also protect the natural environment of the various trails.
