North Perth looking at hefty increase in development charges

The Municipality of North Perth discussed what would be a huge increase to development charges at a public meeting on Monday.

A bylaw scheduled to be passed next month would introduce a 42 per cent development charge increase across the board.

Members of the public spoke against the changes, including Maria Kyveris, owner of P.K. Custom Homes Incorporated, who said builders need more time to absorb such a large change.  She recommended an implementation date sometime in 2020.

Mayor Todd Kasenburg admitted his council "has a lot going on", and wondered if a later implementation date would be more appropriate.

Staff will prepare a report for council on the new changes, with an eye towards passing the bylaw in mid-August.
