Victim Services Huron sharing knowledge at international conference

The executive director of Victim Services Huron is sharing her knowledge at the National Organization of Victim Advocates (NOVA) conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

More than 1,800 victim assistance professionals from around the world will be in attendance from Monday until July 25.

The 45th annual event is a chance for training and acknowledgement for crime victim advocates, crisis responders, sexual assault and domestic violence advocates, prosecutors, judges, social workers, and other allied professionals.

Deborah Logue of Victim Services Huron will present an interactive and engaging workshop that highlights the differences of sex trafficking in rural areas versus urban centres, increasing knowledge of how to identify the types of locations, targeted populations, and recruitment differences.

She will also share success stories of how victims are supported in Canada and how community stakeholders can rally together to support these victims to get out. Logue also presented her workshop a year ago at the conference in Florida.

“I am honoured to be asked to return to NOVA to present on human sex trafficking again this year,” said Logue. “It is a great opportunity to highlight the significant challenges rural areas face and how we are pulling together as a community to fight back against human trafficking. To be able to share this information on an International level demonstrates what an epidemic this crime has become.”

NOVA is the oldest national victim assistance organization of its type in the United States. Their mission is to champion dignity and compassion for those harmed by crime and crisis. NOVA provides disaster relief to victims of crime, victims of mass casualties, or survivors of natural disasters in the form of crisis response services.

Victim Services Huron is a registered charity that works closely with police, emergency medical services, and social service advocates to ensure members of our community are supported during and immediately after a crisis or traumatic event, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, theft/fraud, homicide, fire, motor vehicle collisions, etc.
