Howson Dam/Bridge Committee looking at more options

A citizens committee examining options for the future of Wingham's Howson Dam has completed two meetings.

Committee members continue to exchange ideas, respond to questions, as well as plan visits from various groups to discuss options for the dam.

Wingham resident Mike Martin was very vocal about broadening the scope of options available to the committee, wondering if the dam could be sold to an entity that could improve it.

Martin wants to "talk to Playland, or Adventureland, to put in water slides and make a water park out of it".  He used that as an example of the possibility of another entity owning the dam, and a setup that could generate revenue for North Huron.

Committee Chair and Blyth Ward Councillor Kevin Falconer said that idea represents the unlimited scope of possibilities this committee could consider for the future of the dam.

The Howson Dam/Bridge Committee was set up by North Huron Council to examine the future of the structure, however, council does have the final decision-making power and does not necessarily have to follow a recommendation of the committee.
