Bruce County making changes at Brucelea Haven

Brucelea Haven Long-Term Care Home in Walkerton is suspending admissions while it works to reach full compliance with orders from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

The facility was given two director orders following an inspection earlier this year.

Bruce County Council wrote to the Director of Long-Term Care in June to request the suspension of admission until it had addressed non-compliance issues.

In a release today, administrators says they have already taken steps to improve care:  including recruiting two directors of care - one for clinical and one for quality and standards;   put out a request for proposal for a workplace cultural review;    and developed a new schedule at the Brucelea Haven site to make sure residents are consistently getting baths.

They have also hired 13 new personal support workers in the past two months and ratified a new collective agreement with Unifor.

The release says the county is "committed to ensuring that all our long-term care facilities are operated appropriately, safely and securely for residents, families and staff."
