Golf carts not supposed to be on the road

Police in Bruce County are dealing with what is known as "low-speed vehicles" on roadways, and that includes golf carts.

South Bruce OPP said there are new types of vehicles and devices arriving in the market place every day, expanding options for people who are travelling on roads.

But low-speed vehicles must meet certain conditions including having features such as an odometer and speedometer, windshield defrosting and defogging system, headlights and signal lamps. And golf carts don't meet the criteria.

Charges if you are caught operating a golf cart on a roadway include operating a motor vehicle without required equipment and operating a motor vehicle without a vehicle permit. And additional charges can be laid if the person is found to have liquor in the cart or even impaired.
