The public is being reminded to always call police if a bear is seen in a populated area after one was spotted in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service said officers and the Ministry of Natural Resources investigated a bear sighting early Monday afternoon after the animal was seen in the valley behind Alpha Street and 7th Avenue West.

It was determined that the bear had likely naturally wandered into the valley and stream area, however, no one was injured.

There is no indication that the bear posed a risk to the community, but police ask the public to keep an eye out and call 911 immediately if you see a bear in a populated area.
