Special Olympics Torch Run held in Huron County

This week’s Huron County OPP Special Olympics Torch Run was one of the biggest so far.

OPP Sergeant Russ Nesbitt said they have a great support group and the athletes look forward to the run months and months in advance.

“Everything we raise goes to Ontario Special Olympics. It’s our charity that the Huron OPP support. So we do barbeques through the year, we do torch runs, we do all kinds of fund-raising events and awareness and that sort of thing just to raise funds for Special Olympics,” he said. “We’re hoping to hit about $8,000 if all goes well this year. That’s our goal.”

Nesbitt also credited the great weather Tuesday for the enthusiasm, which he said might not have been so evident if the run had been held on Monday.
