The City of Owen Sound has awarded Don McMillan with the title 2019 Senior of the Year.

Over the past 32 years, he is credited for brightening the lives of many through the sound of music and a great sense of humour.

McMillan was recognized by Mayor Ian Boddy and Owen Sound City Council prior to last night’s Council session in Council Chambers at City Hall.

McMillan has been volunteering his time playing music at local senior’s homes, hospitals and special programs for the Merry Music Makers. he also served with the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club and spent time assisting youth programs and Church programs.  Owen Sound’s Senior of the Year is awarded annually in June to coincide with Senior’s month in Ontario. The recipient is chosen through nominations submitted to the City’s Community Services Committee.

“Mr. McMillan is a great example of a positive contributor in our community,” said Mayor Ian Boddy. “Volunteering his time to help better the lives of others for the past 32 years is certainly a great accomplishment and doesn’t go unnoticed.”
