Huron County hosts Ontario Heritage Conference

The 2019 Ontario Heritage Conference is in Huron County for the weekend.

The conference is being co-hosted by Bluewater and Goderich.

Roma Harris, the co-chair of the local organizing committee, said people are coming from across the province.

"Toronto, Ottawa, some people from Quebec actually, who are here. But anyone who's interested in heritage preservation and municipal planning, in particular, this is the conference to come to if you're trying to preserve what remains of Ontario's heritage," said Harris.

The opening reception was held Thursday night at the restored Hensall Heritage Hall, and continues Friday and Saturday.

"What we're doing here is trying to showcase heritage features of Bluewater, Goderich and in particular the little hamlets in Bluewater, like Hensall, where the opera house has been restored and Bayfield where there's a heritage conservation district and Goderich, where there's an important heritage conservation district," said Harris.

A complete schedule of events can be found on the 2019 Ontario Heritage Conference website.
