Corkscrew City Tour takes Owen Sound back to prohibition days

The Corkscrew City Tour will bring residents back 100 years in a uniquely immersive, historical tour of Owen Sound as the birthplace of prohibition.

The "Corkscrew City Tour" will bring to life the days of prohibition a century ago, in what was then known as “Corkscrew Town.” Owen Sound was also the last dry city in Canada.

Guests will be chauffeured on the "Beer Bus" and meet the saints and sinners of yesterday and the local brewmasters of today.

Historian and author Richard Thomas will lead participants to tastings, brewery tours and dinner.

There will be five Sunday afternoon tours this year. Tours dates are June 2, July 7, August 11, September 8, and October 6.

The city is partnering with the Roxy Theatre, local breweries, historical sites and restaurants.

Stops on the tour include; Seldon House, Damnation Corners, Salvation Corners, King George Hotel, site of the Queen's Hotel, Coulson's British Hotel, the Old Post Office, Paterson House, F.N. D'Orr LePan Store, and Temperance Union Headquarters. Visits with brewmasters and tour the breweries at Kilannan and Mudtown Station. A new stop has been added this year which includes the Owen Sound Visitors Centre, featuring a new experience on the 1950s CN rail car at the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre on the city’s West Shore.

Seating is limited and tickets must be booked in advance through the Beer Bus at (705) 994-4346. Visit owensoundtourism.ca/corkscrewcity
