Festival funding for Bruce and Grey counties

Bruce-Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker has announced over $80,000 in funding for local festivals.

The Paisley Blues Festival starting May 31 will receive $2,597.

Hanover Sights and Sound Festival on July 25-28 will get over $12,000.

The Summertime Blues Festival in Owen Sound on July 12 and 13 will get $65,584.

Walker says the Celebrate Ontario funding supports festivals and events of all sizes to reach new audiences, improve the programs for visitors, benefit local economies and create new jobs.

According to past recipients, every dollar invested through Celebrate Ontario results in almost $21 in visitor spending.

"Our government recognizes the important contributions that festivals and events make to our local economy.    I am pleased that we are supporting the Paisley Blues Festival, Hanover Sights and Sounds Festival and the Summertime Blues Festival in Owen Sound.    These events continue to draw visitors from across the province and provide a positive economic impact to our community," said Walker.

Ontario is investing over $13 million in over 250 festivals and events in communities across the province, plus another $4 million in additional funding for Blockbuster events.
