New Wellington County Garage opens in Drayton

The County of Wellington has officially opened a new 222,200 square foot Drayton Garage.

Warden Kelly Linton said the new garage is triple the size of the former structure and better accommodates current equipment needs. He said after 60 years, it was time to update the garage.

The new Drayton Garage is barrier-free and meets the county’s highest Green Legacy Building Standard, ensuring that the garage is energy efficient.

The grand opening on Friday coincides with National Public Works Week.

The new Drayton Garage also provides the opportunity for the county and the township to share some services, including, wash bays and the fuel depot.

“This is the second County garage to be replaced with a larger, more modernized facility,” commented Roads Committee Chair Andy Lennox. “Drayton follows the Central Garage replacement, and is the next step in modernizing all County garages to better serve residents and the travelling public.”

The 22,200 square-foot Roads Operations and Vehicle Maintenance Facility includes:

• 10 large truck storage and service bays and 1 small truck service bay • High-efficiency energy recovery ventilation system • Full emergency electrical generator on site • 100% non-combustible/full sprinkler facility • Barrier-free washrooms • Tool, equipment and maintenance supply rooms • Rainwater collection system for vehicle washing facilities • Office space and a training room

It was designed by L. Allan Grinham Architects and built by TRP Construction.
