Fanshawe offers carpentry program this fall at REACH

Fanshawe College will be offering a new carpentry program this September at the REACH Centre in Clinton.

Fanshawe's Academic Service Consultant Heather MacKenzie said their core location for the Carpenter Renovation Techniques program will be in Clinton, and they'll have a total of 24 students in Clinton and their other location in Kincardine.

"For us, it's really about getting them the skill sets they need to start into a carpentry field, so typically entry level where they're looking for an opportunity for an apprenticeship. They become much more marketable to employers and more comfortable on the work sites as well with the skills sets they're coming in with," she said.

MacKenzie added the course is designed to meet a need in the industry.

"We know that the carpentry industry is struggling to maintain qualified carpenters, so the more people we can bring into the trade, it helps with all of the renovations that are happening, new home builds, residential construction, all of those things we see in our communities," she said.

This will be the first program of its kind in Huron County.
