Owen Sound fire safety inspections get underway

The Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services begin their annual Home Visitation and Assistance Program on Wednesday.

It's a voluntary program with on-duty firefighters offering to inspect homes for the proper life safety devices. It also gives homeowners a chance to ask questions.

The area of the City of Owen Sound involved in the 2019 campaign is the North East portion of the city. Firefighters will be visiting homes in the area north of 10th Street East and east of 2nd Avenue East. The program hours will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday afternoons.

You can also call and schedule an inspection no matter where you live in the city. Contact the fire department at 519-376-2512 to schedule an inspection

“The home visitation and assistance program has been very successful,” said Fire Chief Doug Barfoot. “The firefighters will ensure working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are present in the home where required and answer any questions the homeowner may have in regards to home fire and life safety.”
