Ambulance services could be streamlined across the province

The director of Emergency Services for Huron County says there are still very few specifics around the provincial government's announcement last week regarding changes to the province's ambulance service.

Jeff Horsemen said the announcement stated the government was going to look at re-aligning the 59 ambulance services and the communications centres that currently exist, into a different-looking service. But there has been no details on how the province plans to go about doing that.

Horseman said there has been speculation that would mean a smaller service that was not part of the official message.

"Premier Ford had indicated in the press conference that there would be no loss in front line staff and if that message is true then the front line staff should remain, and I would foresee that they would remain in the same locations that they currently are, but again, that would be up to the provincial government," said Horseman.

Horseman added their number one concern has always the level of care they deliver to their patients, and he hopes that won't be compromised as part of the change.

He's hoping for more details in the next week or so.
